Northern Lights in Finland (2020), Photography
Only shortly before things got crazy, I had the most mind-boggling (photography) experience of my life. In February 2020 I traveled to Finland to see the northern lights. Despite tricky weather conditions and the currently low aurora appearances, I got lucky 2 1/2 times!
There is nothing more rewarding and soothing than hunting for northern lights and finally catching them! Taking photographs of the vibrating green and purple night skies felt like a huge reward. Slowly transforming lights and fast fireworks of colorful electricity joint together into a natural phenomenon impossible to put into words or even photographs.
If you ever have the chance to see it for yourself, don’t forget to put the camera aside and take a moment to gaze into the colored night sky miraculously unfolding above you.

Milky Way in Lower Austria, Austria (2020)
To see the milky way with your own eyes was common in the days before light pollution. Today, in central Europe, it is really hard to accomplish. You need to calculate carefully, drive to a special location, and catch a clear night. When I first saw the milky way with my own eyes, I was stunned and sad. Why was this hidden from me all the time? These photographs aim to commemorate the night sky as the shared experience as it has been in the past.
Final words
Photography can’t only be beautiful, but also very rewarding and soothing.
In the turbulent year of 2020, I had two really perfect night sky photography moments.
I use photography as memory foam to lie into when I need it. Photography may not depict reality and seems like nothing more than a dream-like copy, but it forms the kind of memories I want to think about.
